Girth Radio Presents…
With the warmer weather, the city is really starting to buzz! Because of this I’ve been searching for new things to try and different ways to get outside. Doing a bit of research, I’ve found a few cool things that you might want to try in the next few weeks! Also, the good news is everything is reasonably affordable.
Soap Making at The Nooks General Store
Confession: I forgot to get a gift for Mother’s Day. I swear I’m not a bad daughter! If anything I’d say I’m savvy since my forgetfulness was how I learnt about the Soap Making workshops hosted by Carberry Soap Co at the Nooks General Store Community Room.
I just happened upon it over Mother’s Day weekend while walking along the Danforth. The class ran from 2-4pm on a Sunday and cost about $25CAD. (I think there might also be a Groupon if you are wanting more of discount.)
In the class you learn two different ways to make soap and walk out with 10 different personalized scented soaps. The cost covers the price of the all materials.
My favourite soap combinations were oat and honey and rose and hibiscus. The soaps make great personalized gifts and make you look really crafty!
Meditation and Yoga Retreat in King City with Meditation Toronto
Meditation Toronto holds a variety of free or affordable workshops across the GTA. They hold weekly meditation classes across Toronto. I attended one of their meditation retreats in King City which was a nice reprieve from the hustle bustle of the city.
It’s a quick 30 minute drive from the downtown core. The entire day costs about $30CAD and runs from 10am – 4pm one Saturday of every month. The day includes a yoga, meditation sessions, a yummy vegetarian lunch and a hike. It’s a great opportunity to get a bit of headspace. Personally my favourite part of the day is the hike!
If you’re not wanting to drive all the way to King City, check out some of their meditation groups and events across Toronto.
Lula World 2017 from June 1st – June 11th
I haven’t obviously gone to Lula World yet but it is definitely on my list of things to do this June! The Toronto world music festival at the Lula Lounge will be bringing together artists with from all over the world. With musicians with roots in Cuba, Jamaica, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Portugal, this 10 day festival is looking pretty cool!
All of the concerts will be happening at the Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas Street West with the exception of the day time concerts on June 3rd. According to their website, the ticket prices range from Free to $30 CAD.
