When Things Go Wrong In Your Life…Do You Grab Your Jacket And Runaway?
Jon Corbin kinda did. His MC moniker Runaway had a unique and personal meaning. Had as in past tense…he’s stopped running away. Now he’s standing, feet firmly planted as Jon Corbin. This is gonna be one dynamic voyage; it totally makes sense his latest release is called A New Direction.
Especially for rap you come into this game and you build your style off your name. Shawn Corey Carter is Jay-Z. O’Shea Jackson is Ice Cube. That’s the hip hop we’ve grown up on, no mother decides to call her newborn Q-Tip. Rock only has a handful of nicknames i.e. U2’s Edge, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash. So who is Jon Corbin?
From his bio: “on Corbin aka The Runaway is a Canadian hip-hop & spoken word artist with lyrical themes of faith, love, family, social justice and personal growth.” So much amazing ideas to discuss! Spend a few minutes on social media and it’s shocking how shallow the collective defines justice; often they get it wrong. Let’s get into this…all of this.
In the interview I quote 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” That aply fit the theme of transition…old is gone; new is here. Runaway is gone; Jon Corbin is here.
