It was on this day that Frodo Baggins cast the One Ring (well, technically Gollum) into the fires of Mount Doom, destroying the evil artifact and defeating Sauron. In honor of Frodo’s saving of Middle Earth, the kingdom of Gondor named this date as their new New Year.
