On this day in 1963, the BBC first began airing the adventures of the mercurial Timelord, Dr. Who. Ever since this auspicious debut, the Doctor has been flitting through time and space with his ever-changing series of companions, protecting the galaxy from Daleks, Cybermen, and the Timelords themselves.

To celebrate: Throw a Dr. Who party and ask everyone to come dressed as their favorite incarnation of the Doctor, or their favorite companion (Donna Noble FTW).
